Transit of inferior planets like Venus and Mercury is a natural phenomenon, which many except night watchers, and astronomers, fail to notice. This transit is different from the usual Lunar or Solar eclipses that occur every year. There will be atleast one or two Solar and Lunar eclipses in a year. When the noon comes between the Sun’s disc either partly or wholly and causes the Solar Eclipse. When the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, it covers the Moon’s disc either partly or wholly and thus causes Lunar Eclipse. In the case of transits, Mercury or Venus appears as a black dot on the Sun’s disc. They com in-between the Sun and the Earth. But they could not cover the disc of the Sun either partly or wholly and so appear as a dot on the Sun.
The transit of Venus across the Sun takes place, when the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and the Earth. During the transit, Venus can be seen from the Earth as a small black dot moving across the face of the Sun. The duration of such transits is usually measured in hours. the diameter of Venus is almost four times that of the Moon. But Venus appears smaller, and travels more slowly across the face of the Sun, because it is much farther away from the Earth. Observations of transits of Venus helped scientist to calculate the distance between the Sun and the Earth.
Transits of Venus are among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomenon. They occur in a pattern that repeats every 243 years with pairs of transits eight years apart, separated by long gaps of 121.5 years and 105.5 years. The periodicity is a reflection of the fact that the orbital periods of Earth and Venus are close to 8:13 and 243:395 resonance.
Before 2004, the last pair of Venus was in December 1874 and December 1882. The first pair of transits of Venus in the beginning of the 21st century will be on the 06th June 2012. After 2012, subsequent transits of Venus will be in December 2117 and December 2125.
Venus usually appears to pass under the Sun in the sky at inferior conjunction. A transit occurs when Venus reaches conjunction with the Sun at or near one of its nodes. The node is the longitude where Venus passes through the Earth’s orbital plane called the ecliptic. Although the inclination between the two orbital planes is only 3.4 degree, Venus can be as far as 9.6 degree from the Sun when viewed from the Earth at inferior conjunction. Since the angular diameter of the Sun is about half a degree, Venus may appear to pass above or below the Sun.
Visibility:
The 2012 transit of Venus will be visible from North America, the Pacific, Asia, Australia, Eastern Europe and Eastern Africa.
Residents of Iceland are in a unique wedge-shaped part of the path. they will see both the start and the end of the transit. A similarly shaped region exits around the South of Australia., but here the Sun rises after the transit begins and sets before the event ends.
WARNING: For skywatchers who are planning to view the transit of Venus in person, it is important to exercise caution. It is very dangerous to stare directly at the sun. Special eclipse glasses and filters for telescopes are needed to avoid permanently damaging your eyes.
Significance in Astrology:
Venus Goddess and transit in June 2012
The symbolism of this and the spiritual significance of Venus, which has represented love and harmony for numerous cultures, is abundant. This Venus Transit was a highly anticipated cosmic event by the Ancient Maya who saw this as a mark point in time that would herald the great shift leading up to 12-21-12.
So what does this all mean for us?
We are entering a new era, the Divine Feminine is rising, coming forth within each one of us to heal and bring into right balance and right relation our planetary family. Feminine qualities (Venus, Moon) are going to transcend into wholeness and integration those of the masculine (the Sun). The Feminine is rising and coming into the forefront to bring unity consciousness forth.Venus correlates to our core beingness, to our inner feminine or responsive consciousness, our Yin energy charge, to needs and desires. The Yin momentum is that of draw-in or attraction.”
Venus correlates to the principle of relatedness, relationship, and relativity. Like attracts like; how we feel inwardly, how we resonate and energize from within, this then becomes the basis of our magnetic force-field. We create and materialize from this energy source. Venus is fertile and fertilizing. She creates and she perpetuates….”
On June 5/6 2012, there will be a significant energy surge transmitted between our creator consciousness and instinctual desires. The creative potency is so dynamic, it is compelling enough to turn the conceptual into the reality, to bring that which we are resonating with into being. Simply whatever it is that we have evaluated as most desirable and necessary for our continuance and survival is brought to the fore.
